- SECOND SUNDAY
IN LENT
March 3/4, 2007
-
- What role does silence play in
your Lenten journey?
- Gospel Reflection (Luke
9:28b-36): Wouldnt it be wonderful to see your best
friend transformed, or turned into his or her glorified self,
right before your eyes? Thats the kind of experience Peter,
James, and John have in todays gospel. While they are up
on a mountain with Jesus, they have a splendid vision of him
in his glorified body. They see him talking with Moses and Elijah,
two long-dead figures from the Old Testament. Moses represents
the Law, while Elijah represents the prophets. In Jesus, both
find the fulfillment of Gods plan of salvation.
Discussion Points for Gospel: There is an old folk saying
that probably came from this gospel account. It goes: The
devil can quote Scripture, too. This means that good things
(like Scripture, or an idea that seems to be harmless or even
good) can be used to trip us up or deceive us. We have to be
careful and consider how good or trustworthy a person or an idea
is. While we are to be open and accepting of everyone as loved
by God, we sometimes have to examine how well people can back
up the truth of what they say.
Here the devil used a beautiful psalm verse about Gods
care for us to suggest that Jesus, as the Son of God, could recklessly,
for no good reason, throw himself from the Temple. Jesus rejected
the idea of testing Gods love and care for
him. Do we ever test Gods love and care? How
might this work against trust in God? (from

- Sunday Scripture Readings
- Reflection on the Scriptures has become
more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times
we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but
we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may
be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately
after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with
the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture
reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday.
In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual
links to the readings.

- QUESTIONS OF THE
WEEK
SECOND SUNDAY IN LENT
Today's
Scriptures tells us that "Abram put his faith in the Lord."
-
- Adults: How does my faith in the Lord strengthen
when I am faced with difficult choices to live my baptism?
-
- Children: What difficult things do I do that
show my love for God and for my family?
Mission Envelopes
The mission this past week was surely a time of grace. Fr. Bill
was such an effective instrument of the good news. He wants to
pass along his appreciation for your warm welcome and prayferful
attention. Please use the Parish Mission envelopes to help with
the expenses of the mission. LENTEN LUNCHES
Please join us after the daily 12:15 Mass
for a light soup lunch and fellowship in the Parish Center.
We really need volunteers to make and bring
their favorite soup to share during Lent. There is a sign-up
sheet posted in the kitchen.
**During Lent, daily Mass will only be at 12:15;
there will not be a 5:15 Mass. SOUP SUPPER &
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
On the Fridays of Lent, we will offer
a light soup supper at 5:30 p.m. in the Parish Center
and then have Stations of the Cross and Benediction at 6:00 p.m.
in church. Volunteers are needed to provide soup for these suppers.
Sign up on the sheet posted in the kitchen.

NEWS
Claimed for Christ Retreat
March 9-10 at Sacred Heart Retreat House! Come, listen and listen
again. It is in stillness and openness that we respond to God
as he speaks to us. Call 740-667-0100 for reservations.
PARENTING
POINTERS
Few people in developed nations consider themselves really rich,
but its all a matter of who were comparing ourselves
to. Jesus was born in a stable. Spend some time rubbing shoulders
with those who have less this weekend - perhaps take a ride in
a poor neighborhood.
His mother treasured (pondered) all these things in her
heart. (Luke 2:51) You dont have to be a mother to
watch and ponder your childs progress and set backs. Silently
watch your child(ren) today and marvel at the ups & downs
of their lives. NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING
Natural Family Planning is Good News for modern families. It
is safe, healthy, and highly effective. Next class series to
begin at Christ the King Parish Center on Sat., March 10. For
more info or to register contact: Bob and Sharon Colvin 593-5713,
or email them at colvin.sl@gmail.com THANK YOU!!
Cliff & Carol Wasko would like to offer our sincere appreciation
to all who kept the Wasko-Smell triplets in their thoughts and
prayers the past three months. Myleigh, Brianna, and Ethan are
home and are doing quite well. Thank you so very much. God bless
you.

PEACE & JUSTICE MINISTRY QUOTES
- We go to great lengths to
have an easy life. It can be a daily temptation for us not to
discipline ourselves in areas of greed, materialism, or even
sensuality. Health and wealth we want it now. We want
God to speak to us now, to guide us now, to heal us now. And
Jesus is saying: No, have patience. Be in the wilderness and
discover how to rely on God. Simplify your lifestyle, reject
the easy answers, and the wilderness journey will start to teach
you something about trust in God and how to serve God with your
heart, your soul, and your mind.

the Lord tradition.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
The next monthly meeting is Monday, March
5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Center. MARRIAGE
MOMENTS
- During this penitential season,
try applying the Stranger Standard to your marriage.
Michelle Weiner-Davis coined this phrase in Divorce Busting to
remind us that sometimes married couples treat strangers with
more courtesy and sensitivity than their spouse. Just because
you have a lifelong commitment doesnt mean you can take
each other for granted. It may become a habit.
Advocating for Public Policy Change
Our group, called Advocating for Public Policy Change, helps
people with disabilities, their families and friends learn how
to take an active role in their community and become involved
in governmental decisions. By joining this group, individuals
with MRDD diagnoses will learn: (1) How to become an advocate
leader. (2) How to reach policymakers about independence, productivity
and community participation. (3) How a bill becomes law. (4)
How to write and talk wih local, state and federal leaders and
legislators. (5) How to work to change policies (6) How to work
with other advocates to make your voices stronger.
We meet every third Thursday at 6:00 at the Plains Library. If
you are interested in attending of know of someone who would
be interested in attending, but need to ask questions or need
transportation please call Havar at (740) 594-3533 and ask for
Scott, Dustin or Mitch.
