EASTER SUNDAY
March 22/23, 2008

Through Baptism we have new life in Christ. How are you called to live this new life today?

Gospel Reflection (John 20:1-9): The gospel story of the empty tomb proclaims a joyful freedom theme. Jesus is free from the bonds of death! Mary Magdalene is freed from fear and becomes a witness to his resurrection. Peter and John are free to believe that their Lord is risen from the dead. The dawn of Easter frees us from fear and the darkness of sin. Alleluia!

Discussion Points for Gospel:
How will your faith in the risen Lord free you to be a better person? How have you “seen and believed” this Easter? (--Sadlier “We Believe” www.webelieve.web.com)

Sunday Scripture Readings
Reflection on the Scriptures has become more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday. In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual links to the readings.

QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
Easter Sunday

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the turning point of all human history and the ultimate reason why we believe that good will triumph over evil in this world as in the next.

Adults: What can I point to in my own behavior as a sign of the power of Christ’s resurrection working in my life?

Children: What is one good deed that I can do for someone this week to show that I am a child of the light?

R.C.I.A. CONGRATULATIONS
Since last September, 7 members of our community have been preparing for the reception of sacraments this Easter. They have gathered together faithfully nearly every Thursday evening to study and pray. We congratulate them and are very grateful for the model of faith they have given to us!
The following Catechumens will receive the Sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation: Robert Craig, Daniel Helman and Alejandra Marks.
These R.C.I.C. Catechumens will all be baptized: Abagael Brier Webb, Allyson Anne Webb and Jonathan David Casey Webb.
Anthony Frey will be received into the Church with the Sacraments of First Eucharist and Confirmation.
THANK YOU
We’d like to thank the women of our funeral luncheon ministry who prepared and served food for Margie Ruman’s funeral lunch last Saturday. And special thanks to Kathy Schumacher for coordinating the effort!
Thanks, too, to the goodie baker ministry for providing yummy snacks for our students during “study tables” this past week and for fingerfood for the Easter reception.
ATTENTION LITURGICAL MINISTERS: We need ministers for next weekend, March 29/30. Please contact Nancy Sand, nsand@ctkathens.org, or 592-3410, if you can help out.
MINISTERS, please contact Nancy Sand, 592-3410, or email her at nsand@ctkathens.org if you can help during Holy Week services.
EASTER TIME
The fifty days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost are celebrated in joyful exultation as one feast day, or better, as one “great Sunday.” (Athanasius) These, above all others, are the days for the singing of the Alleluia. The Sundays of this season rank as the paschal Sundays, and after Easter Sunday itself, are called the Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Sundays of Easter. The period of fifty sacred days ends on Pentecost Sunday. The first eight days of the Easter season make up the octave of Easter and are celebrated as solemnities of the Lord. On the fortieth day after Easter, the Ascension is celebrated. The weekdays after Ascension until the Saturday before Pentecost inclusive are a preparation for the coming of the Holy Spirit.

BUS TRIP TO BRIDGEPORT & WHEELING
The St. Francis Society of Athens is sponsoring a bus trip to the Wheeling Island Casino on Friday, April 4. We will stop at St. Joseph Church in Bridgeport to have Mass and lunch with Fr. Mucha. We will then travel to the Casino for those who wish to spend a few hours there or you may continue on to Oglebay Park for the tulip festival. Cost for the bus is $30 per person. There will be additional charge for lunch. The bus leaves Christ The King Church at 8:30 AM and will return to Athens at approximately 6:00 PM. Please place your name on the sign-up sheet located on the bulletin board in the Parish Center.
BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN
The Pregnancy Resource Center in Athens, a Christian, pro-life support center, will hold its annual Baby Bottle Campaign on Sunday, April 6th. This year the Center is encouraging gifts in honor of the mother of your choice. They will then send her a beautiful Mother’s Day card telling her of the gift of life you have made in her honor.
LITURGY BITS AND BYTES
   Intercessions within the Eucharistic Prayer
Following the offering, we make intercession. We pray for ourselves, that “we may be filled with his Holy Spirit, and become one body, one spirit in Christ.” We pray for the world, for the Pope, bishops and clergy, and for those who have died. Having offered the one, holy, and effective sacrifice, we pray in Christ’s name for our needs and those of the world.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR NEEDED
Once a month, the Parish Community Service Committee has helped put on a community dinner for 30 to 50 people at the UCM house on College Street in Athens. A new leader is needed to be responsible for preparing a menu and recruiting about 5 parishioners to prepare and serve the food and clean up. We can bring food we prepare ourselves or use the food pantry at the UCM house.
The PCSC is starting a new schedule for these dinners, concentrating on the summer months where there is greatest need due to fewer student volunteers. The PCSC will be responsible for these dinners on the 4th Thursday of June (June 26) and the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of July and August (July 10 and 24, August 14 and 28). The event usually takes about 3 hours (arrive at 4:00 PM at the UCM house to begin food preparation; dinner served at 5:30; cleanup finished by about 7:00PM).
Please call the parish at 592-2711 if interested.
