THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER
April 5/6, 2008

Where have you encountered Jesus “along the road?”

Gospel Reflection (Luke 24:13-35): As two downhearted disciples journey to Emmaus, a stranger joins them. To him they pour out all their crushed hopes about Jesus who has been crucified and whom they miss so much. After listening carefully to their story, the stranger tells them that they are slow to “believe all that the prophets have announced.” He then explains the Scripture to them.
The disciples are delighted with the stranger’s teaching. But they do not realize that the stranger is Jesus until he takes bread, blesses it, breaks it, and gives it to them. At Mass the priest does this very same thing today. At Mass we too meet Jesus along the road of our lives, and Jesus gives himself to us through these very actions.

Discussion Points for Gospel:
Our friends can either lead us to walk with Jesus or to walk away from him. How do you support and help your friends in walking with Jesus? How do they support and help you? How do you show that you, too, recognize Jesus in the breaking of the bread at the celebration of the Eucharist? (--Sadlier “We Believe” www.webelieve.web.com)

Sunday Scripture Readings
Reflection on the Scriptures has become more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday. In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual links to the readings.

QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
Third Sunday of Easter

Today’s readings emphasize the importance of Scripture. Reading Scripture can deepen our prayer life and our relationship with God. Sharing the stories of Jesus in the Bible with others lays a foundation for a rich life of faith.

Adults: When have my eyes been opened to see and understand the Gospel in a new way?

Children: What are my favorite stories about Jesus?

PRAYER/MEDITATION BOOKLETS
The Living Faith booklets are available at the bulletin boards in church. The months of April, May and June are included in this issue.
We also have available the April issue of Living with Christ. These particular booklets are very well done. Each issue is $2.00, or you can purchase a yearly subscription for $15.00; contact the office for more information.
DPSC DRIVE WEEKEND
You’ve probably read the articles about the Diocesan Parish Share Campaign in The Steubenville Register, and many of you have received a mailing with materials pertaining to the campaign. This weekend is another opportunity to participate in the DPSC; there are pledge cards and brochures in the pews for your use. Your gift supports many programs within our diocese.
BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN
The Pregnancy Resource Center is conducting its annual Baby Bottle Campaign. They are asking that you “spare some change to help spare a life.” Christians from various denominations in the community have bonded together to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ.
The PRC is a locally-organized and funded ministry, which offers life-affirming education to women and families. The resources from the local church and community are used to alleviate some of the problems facing these women who have found themselves in a crisis pregnancy situation. The goal this year is to raise $9,000! Bottles and instructions will be available for pick up, in the Gathering Space, after the Masses today. The bottles need to be returned next Sunday, April 13th.
PEACE & JUSTICE MINISTRY
We are called to be peacemakers, not by some movement of the moment, but by our Lord Jesus. The content and context of our peacemaking is set not by some political agenda or ideological program, but by the teaching of his Church.”
- U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, May 3, 1983
The ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY will meet on Monday, April 7, 7:00 pm in the Parish Center at CTK.
YOUTH GROUP RETREAT
The CTK/St. Paul Youth Group is heading to St. John’s Church in Logan for a weekend retreat this Friday-Sunday, April 11-13. Members of the Newman Community are leading the retreat. Do you want to grow closer to God and learn more about your faith? If so, please contact the parish office to register no later than this Wednesday, April 9.
The CATHOLIC LADIES OF COLUMBIA April meeting is Monday, the 14th at 6:30 pm in the CTK Parish Center. Regrets only may be phoned to Candy Goodwin at 594-3090.
LITURGY BITS AND BYTES
 Amen.
This is our response of assent, approval, agreement. It is our statement that we believe and endorse all that has gone before. We call this the “great Amen,” because, although there are many throughout the liturgy, this is the BIG ONE. This is our agreement, “so it is,” to the wonderful prayer which we call the Eucharistic Prayer. Of all the parts of the mass which are to be sung, this is the MOST important, because our response at this time is so important. It is our statement of faith and praise. It is our agreement to the whole action. Just as we offered our gifts, financial or otherwise, as a statement of our willingness to be part of this celebration and as a symbol of our willingness to be transformed with the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ, so our hearty and heartfelt “AMEN” vocally asserts this intention.
