- THE SIXTH SUNDAY
OF EASTER
May 12/13, 2007
-
- Who are the people who have helped
you believe? Whom do you help?
- Gospel Reflection (John
14:23-29) In the gospel today, Jesus continues to speak about
love. Those who live will experience Gods love in their
lives and the gift of peace that only Christ can give. Jesus
also promises to send the Paraclete, or the Comforter, to his
disciples. The Paraclete is the Holy Spirit, who will guide the
Church for all time. Jesus followers will not be left on
their own.
Discussion Points for Gospel: If Jesus gift to us is peace, why do we so often
lack peace in our hearts, in our homes, and in our world? What
does loving Jesus and being true to his word have to do with
the gift of peace that he promises?
We believe that God is TrinityFather,
Son, and Holy Spirit. The sign of the cross that we pray so often
affirms our faith. One day this week, be aware of yourself as
a child of God the Father. How does this affect you, your attitudes,
your prayers? Another day, be aware of the gift of Jesus to us.
How does this affect you, your attitudes, your prayers? Another
day, be aware of the Comforter, God the Holy Spirit, that Jesus
promised. How does this awareness of the Spirit affect you, your
attitudes, your prayers? (from Sadlier We Believe)

- Sunday Scripture Readings
- Reflection on the Scriptures has become
more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times
we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but
we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may
be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately
after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with
the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture
reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday.
In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual
links to the readings.

- QUESTIONS OF THE
WEEK
SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
Jesus
promises us peace in today's Gospel, but his way to peace differs
from the attitudes which prevail in our society. His peace asks
us to address the underlying causes of injustice and to reject
the use of coercion in attaining our goals.
-
- Adults: Where do I recognize a need for peace,
and how can I build peace by treating others justly and with
respect?
-
- Children: How can I be a person of peace with
those around me?

PRAYER FOR MOTHERS DAY
God of Love, listen to this prayer.
God of Holy People, of Sarah, Ruth and Rebekah;
God of holy Elizabeth, mother of John, of Holy Mary, Mother of
Jesus, bend down Your ear to this request and bless the mother
of our family.
Bless her with the strength of Your spirit,
she who has taught her child/children how to stand and how to
walk.
Bless her today, now, in this lifetime, with
good things, with health. Bless her with joy, love, laughter
and pride in her child/children and surround her with many good
friends.
May she who carried life in her womb be carried
on one day to Your divine embrace: there, for all eternity, to
rejoice with her family and friends.
This blessing and all graces, we pray, descend
upon the mother of our family: in the name of the Father, and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen+

AND JUSTICE MINISTRY

and Justice Committee. LITURGY BYTES & BITS
Who are the music ministers in liturgy? We
refer to the instrumentalists and vocalists who lead us in song
as the music ministers. And so they are.
However, this can be misleading, because WE,
the COMMUNITY, are the primary music ministers in liturgy. Our
job is to sing the songs, to witness to our faith to one another
through our singing, and to encourage others to do the same through
our enthusiastic song. It is important that we support one another
in song and that we hear one another and are not overwhelmed
by electronic amplification or muted by sound-absorbing materials.
Singing together is an important element of the liturgy which
transforms us from independent individuals to a unified worshiping
body.
If we feel we do not sing well, we can always
remember the words of Psalm 95:1: O come, let us
sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our
salvation!
