SUNDAY
OF EASTER

- How does your parish promote the
unity of all Christians? Your family?
- Gospel Reflection (John
17:20-26) Today we are listening in on Jesus prayer
to the Father at the Last Supper. His voice communicates deep
emotion as he prays for his friends, then and now. What Jesus
wants most is unity, unity among all believers, and unity between
believers and God. That they may be one, as we are one,
he prays.
Jesus prayer reminds us that if the love
of God is truly alive in us, the proof of that love will be in
our unity with others. Divisions among Christians are a sign
that we still have much work to do.
Discussion Points for Gospel: How does it feel to know that Jesus was praying for
you? How can you show today that you have the spirit of unity?
We know that today there are differing beliefs among the various
religions of the world, and differing beliefs even among Christians.
How can we make a contribution to unity? Think of ways the following
might help: love, respect, dialogue, study, prayer. (from
Sadlier We Believe)

- Sunday Scripture Readings
- Reflection on the Scriptures has become
more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times
we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but
we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may
be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately
after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with
the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture
reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday.
In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual
links to the readings.

- QUESTIONS OF THE
WEEK
SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
Love
motivates Jesus to pray for unity in the Gospel for the Seventh
Sunday of Easter. If we wish to live in God's love, we are called
to work against the ignorance and pride which divides us. We
are called to make Jesus' prayer a reality.

If we, the gathered assembly, are the primary
music ministers, what is the function of those whom we label
music ministers?
They lead us in our songs. They provide the
mechanics which enable us to sing together and in tune. Their
formation and expertise in liturgical music enables them to select
appropriate songs for this community to celebrate this liturgy
with these readings on this particular day. Among other things,
they can on occasion provide solo music for inspiration (perhaps
during the Preparation of the Gifts) or also can enhance the
ambiance (for example, through prelude and postlude music.) Ministry Resource Update, Resource Publications,

Scientists continue to find new, morally acceptable
sources of stem cells for treatment of disease. In early January,
researchers at Wake Forest University reported that the stem
cells they drew from amniotic fluid donated by pregnant women
hold much the same promise as embryonic stem cells which can
only be obtained by killing a human embryo. San Diego Union Tribune.
