THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
May 29/30, 2010

Describe the ways you relate to each person of the Blessed Trinity.

Gospel Reflection: (John 16:12-15) Today’s gospel continues with Jesus’ advice and instructions to the disciples at the Last Supper. He promises that the Spirit will be there to guide his followers to the truth. The Spirit will speak in Jesus’ name, just as Jesus speaks in the Father’s name. Each of these three Persons in one God belongs to the other. We call this mystery of God’s identity the Blessed Trinity.

Discussion Points: We often use a triangle as a symbol for the Trinity. Each side is equal, and each of the three sides make one triangle. In the Trinity, all three Persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) are equal. Each one is God, yet one is not “more God” than the other. Together, they are one God. Saint Patrick used a shamrock to describe the Trinity. A shamrock is one plant with three leaves. Can you think of or design a symbol or sign that helps you relate to the Trinity?

Sunday Scripture Readings
Reflection on the Scriptures has become more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday. In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual links to the readings.

QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
The Most Holy Trinity

When the Lord gave us the Eucharist, he meant this great sacrament to sustain us. It is the ‘bread of angels’ and ‘food for the journey.’ It enables us to go to God.
Adults: Are there particular moments when the Eucharist clearly became the decisive and life-giving sustenance of my life, enabling me to go forward?

Children: How do I show gratitude and thanks in my life?

Habitat for Humanity -- Donation tithe builds Habitat Homes in other countries

A new Habitat build costs about $80,000 in materials; $8,000 is sent to the International Office to help build a home in less developed countries.
Over the years the Faith Build Coalition has built 6 homes in our area; they have also financed another 6 homes in other countries. Many of these homes have been built in Guatemala.
We are rapidly reaching our goal for this year; there have been 45 contributions, many of which have been quite substantial. Thanks to all who have helped.
The second goal is that this gift be representative of our faith community. We still have some work to do to broaden the support for Habitat. Please give something, even a little will mean much.

Diocesan Parish Share Campaign
Pledges to date: 40     Amount: $19,115.00

Our DPSC Goal is $25,700.00. Monies collected above this amount will be returned to the parish. Remember, this year we have major capitol improvements to make: the replacement of the roof in the church and also the replacement of the heating and air conditioning systems. Your support then is especially important.
Kroger community RewardS Program: it benefits Religious Education

Since 2008 we earned a total of $22,877.46 through the generosity of Kroger and the dedication of our parishioners and friends who registered to support our Program. From September 2010 - March 2010 we earned $7030.38 via the dedication of 103 participating St. Paul and CTK parishioners.

LITURGY BITS AND BYTES
  Trinity Sunday

At every Sunday liturgy we begin with the sign of the cross: “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Often the gesture we make with those words becomes rote, even meaningless because we do it so automatically. Yet, this gesture is one of the most basic and profound signs of our faith. The gesture of crossing ourselves not only praises the Trinity but makes a powerful statement about who we are. How carefully do we make the sign? How aware are we of the implications of “signing” ourselves? This gesture could be so much more powerful if it were done with attention and reverence. On Trinity Sunday, we can make a special effort at signing ourselves with attention and devotion. Instead of trying to “explain” the Trinity, we might take more care at expressing our belief by the way we make the sign of the cross.
