"Mission to Serve": New Orleans Diary

THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
June 10/11, 2006
How do you express your faith in each person of the Trinity?
Gospel Reflection (Matthew 28:16-20): A good family is a blessing to be shared. In today’s gospel, Jesus speaks to his gathered disciples. He sends them out to draw others into the family of God. They are to make disciples in every nation and baptize them “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” They are also to teach these new members of the family everything that Jesus has taught them.
We are called to this same mission. And Jesus promises to be with us always as we share our faith in him.

Discussion Points for Gospel:
Share a story or a description of “One Thing I Really Enjoy about Our Parish Family.” What are some of the ways young people might invite others to share their parish family life? How can young people help to make improvements in their parish family?    What ideas do you have about how your parish can reach out to people from other nations and cultures? How will you share these ideas?

Sunday Scripture Readings
Reflection on the Scriptures has become more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday. In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual links to the readings.

QUESTIONS FOR THE RIDE HOME
The Most Holy Trinity

God the Son became human without giving up his divinity. He ministered with people, attracted a following and challenged those who oppressed the lowly. After his passion, death, and resurrection, he appeared to his disciples and sent them into the world to baptize and teach, "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19)

Adults: How would I describe the Holy Trinity to someone who does not know God?

Children: How am I called to share the good news of God's love this week?
MASS SCHEDULE CHANGES

This weekend, June 10/11, we will begin our summer Mass schedule.
     Saturdays:          5:15 p.m.
     Sundays:            8:30 & 10:30 a.m.
     Reconciliation:    4:15 p.m. on Saturdays
The daily Mass schedule remains the same.
THANK YOU!

Thanks to all who shared in the celebration after the 10:30 mass last Sunday and offered kind wishes. Thanks also to those who had earlier shared such sentiments. It is an honor to serve the people of Christ the King University Parish. Thanks to our pastoral council who did the planning and the work for this event. I appreciate very much their good efforts.
Also, last Sunday’s festivities served as an occasion for bringing our community together, and some people who had never met became acquainted. That was a good thing. We should look for additional opportunities to meet each other. Fr. Marty

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Families, get your passports stamped and visas ready for travel! A new VBS adventure called Trading Places is about to begin. Kids are going to discover as they travel that Jesus Makes a World of Difference. This fun-filled event takes place daily from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, July 9 - 13, in the spacious CTK Parish Center.
Through hands-on activities, kids will visit Mexico, Brazil, Poland, China and Kenya to see how kids all over the globe can worship the same God. And along the way, they’ll learn what it would be like to “trade places” with them.
Registration begins today; materials can be picked up in the vestibule of the church. Contact Dawn McCarthy (707-1342) or Karen Matteson (594-7479 if you have any questions or if you are interested in volunteering to help with this awesome children’s project.

RESPECT LIFE
Speaking about the scientific exploitation of human embryos, the future Pope Benedict XVI stated, "I would like to recall that already once before, medical experiments were carried out on persons who were held to be inferior. Where will the logic that consists in treating a fetus or an embryo as a thing lead?"
