MOST HOLY BODY & BLOOD
OF CHRIST
June 17/18, 2006
In what ways does the Eucharist nourish you?
Gospel Reflection (Mark 14:12-16, 22-26): When people arrive at their parish church to celebrate Mass on Sunday morning, they are often distracted by many things. But this gospel reading reminds us of what Eucharist is all about. It helps us to focus on the Last Supper, the final Passover meal Jesus shared with his friends. There we hear him say those familiar and astounding words: “This is my body. This is my blood.”
The breaking of the bread and pouring out of the wine remind us once again of how Jesus’ body was broken on the cross and how his blood was spilled for us. Now we are his body on earth. And we are nourished by his eucharistic presence among us.

Discussion Points for Gospel:
If you had a tape recording of your thoughts as you arrived for Mass today, what might be on it? Who or what helps you to get “plugged into” what is really happening in the celebration of the Eucharist? What ideas do you have about how your parish liturgy planners might help people to be more involved in the Mass?    How would you describe the difference the Eucharist makes in your life? What can you do to help others appreciate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ? (from Sadlier "We Believe" web site)

Sunday Scripture Readings
Reflection on the Scriptures has become more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday. In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual links to the readings.

QUESTIONS FOR THE RIDE HOME
The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

The final lines of today's Gospel contain a stark contrast. Jesus offers his followers the ultimate gift, the gift of himself in his own body and blood. In their joy, they go forth singing. The contrast lies in the place where they are going, as the Mount of Olives will be the place where Jesus' cruel suffering begins and culminates in his death on the cross.

Adults: How does the gift of the Eucharist help me face struggles in my life?

Children: How can I remember to thank God throughout this week?

THANK YOU!!
A week ago we celebrated our annual Graduation Mass of Thanksgiving. The Mass was as meaningful as always with beautiful music provided by Newman students. Both the Mass and reception were well-attended by students, their families and several parishioners.
A huge THANKS to members of our "goody baking ministry" for the wonderful sandwiches, cookies, brownies, veggies and fruit and all the other yummy treats they provided for the reception. You all perform a vital role of welcoming and hospitality at our events; thank you!
PRAYER FOR FATHERS
St. Joseph, guardian of Jesus and chaste husband of Mary, you passed your life in loving fulfillment of duty. You supported the holy family of Nazareth with the work of your hands. Kindly protect those who trustingly come to you. You know their aspirations, their hardships, their hopes. They look to you because they know you will understand and protect them. You too knew trial, labor and weariness. But amid the worries of material life your soul was full of deep peace and sang out in true joy through intimacy with God’s Son entrusted to you and with Mary, his tender Mother. Assure those you protect that they do not labor alone. Teach them to find Jesus near them and to watch over him faithfully as you have done.
