- Sunday Scripture Readings
- Reflection on the Scriptures has become
more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times
we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but
we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may
be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately
after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with
the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture
reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday.
In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual
links to the readings.

- QUESTIONS OF THE
WEEK
- Twenty-Sixth Sunday
in Ordinary Time
-
- The parable of the rich man and Lazarus
does not fault wealth or comfortable living, rather it warns
us to be aware of the suffering of others. It moves us to see
beyond the small world of the familiar and safe to concern ourselves
with the suffering that occurs daily in the larger world community
that surrounds us.
Adults: How has the Gospel challenged my
own thinking about those who are poor or suffering?
Children: Which of the two men in todays
parable would I most like to be? Why?

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Im Philomina Nweze, a blind graduate
student at Ohio University, requesting for any of the Church
members who would volunteer to help me read some of my course-materials.
My telephone number is 740-5923184, and my address is: 35 Wolfe
Street, Apt. 21, in Athens. LITURGY BYTES &
BITS
You may also have noticed that there is a separate
book for the Gospel reading. Called The Book of the
Gospels, it contains only those excerpts from the Scripture
which are from the Gospels. They are contained in this separate
special volume so that more honor can be given to these readings
which are specifically the account of Christ present in our world,
showing us who God is for us.
One of the ways in which the Book of Gospels
is honored is that it is carried in procession during the Gospel
Acclamation. On special occasions, this procession is accompanied
by candles and/or incense. One interesting note is that candles
never accompany the Book at the Gospel procession during the
Easter Vigil. The Paschal candle is THE candle which is a primary
symbol on that night, and it is the candle by which the Word
of God is read.
