26TH SUNDAY OF
ORDINARY TIME
September 30/October 1, 2006
Respect Life
Sunday
What will you do this week in Jesus’ name?
Gospel Reflection (Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48): Like Moses before him, Jesus wants God’s healing power to be shared by as many as possible. When a disciple complains about a man who is healing in Jesus’ name but who is not one of their company, Jesus assures him, “Anyone who is not against us is with us.” Doing good is not to be restricted to an exclusive few. Giving good example to the “little ones” or those of simple faith will be rewarded. Anyone who leads them astray deserves punishment.
Since our hands, our feet, and our eyes can lead us into sin, we are to use them in ways that honor God’s Kingdom of love, justice, and peace. By doing so, we help to make God’s reign visible in our midst.

Discussion Points for Gospel: Recall some of your experiences of having substitute teachers in religion or other classes. How did you and your classmates treat these substitutes? Why? When new pastors or other parish leaders arrive, how do you think they should be treated? How might we apply what Jesus says in today’s gospel to the ways in which we support those who serve in his name?
In what ways can people your age give a good example to young children at home, at school, or in the community? What does Jesus say about those who lead the little ones astray?

Sunday Scripture Readings
Reflection on the Scriptures has become more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday. In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual links to the readings.

QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
26th Sunday of Ordinary Time

Perhaps the disciples were looking out for themselves in today's Gospel when they expressed concern that other people were praying and acting in Jesus' name. In response, Jesus teaches them that all people are invited to become his followers. The gift of faith is offered to all people and not just a chosen few.

Adults: What special gift do I contribute to the world?

Children: In what way can I be more like Jesus this week?
TODAY!!!

LIVING ROSARY
During the recent sign-up weekends, we had 15 people indicate an interest to pray the Living Rosary -- a wonderful response! We'd like to have at least 6 more participants in order that all four mysteries will be completely prayed each and every day. Please call Wendy at the office, 592-2711, for more information.
The LIVING FAITH October, November and December issue is now available. Come to the Gathering Space to pick up one of these FREE prayer and reflections booklets.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IDEAS FOR THIS WEEK
•Today is Respect Life Sunday. Talk to your family about why Catholics are pro-life.
•Monday is the Feast of the Guardian Angels. We honor the angels who protect us.
•Wednesday is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. He founded a religious order of men who would travel the world to help those in need teaching them of the Love of God and the Kingdom. St. Francis also had a special relationship with animals. Say a prayer for the creatures in your life.
•Thursday: Feast of St. Bruno. He and a few friends spent their lives in quiet prayer for others.
•Saturday: is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Look for the brochure on the Rosary in the Gathering Space.
During October we study Mary’s life in the classroom. Ask your child each week what they did and learned.
Bishop Conlon talked on Tuesday night about the rewards and blessings that come from participating in the Sunday Liturgy as a family. What blessings do you feel while participating in the Liturgy? As a family use the “Questions of the Week in this week insert” to spark a discussion on the Gospel of today. In the classroom, we use weekly newsletters to assist the teachers in reviewing the Gospel. Ask your child how they used the brochure this week.
YOUTH NEWS -- FIG AND FAIR TRADE
October is fair trade month, so at our meeting this week we’ll learn about fair trade and get to know some farmers impacted by unfair trade practices. We’ll also have some fun activities with the FIG group. Location change! - please meet at 6:30 PM Tuesday at Christ The King Parish Center.
DIOCESAN YOUTH RALLY - OCTOBER 22

RESPECT LIFE
St. Paul wrote in Ephesians (5:11), "Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them" Evil flourishes when it is hidden and when the victim in unseen. Our job is to expose the evil of abortion and euthanasia to the light of human conscience, and keep the humanity of its victims ever before the public eye.
