- Sunday Scripture Readings
- Reflection on the Scriptures has become
more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times
we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but
we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may
be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately
after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with
the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture
reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday.
In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual
links to the readings.

- WORLD MISSION SUNDAY --
October 21
All the Churches for all the world
is the theme for World Mission Sunday 2007. It invites the local
Churches of every continent to a shared awareness of the urgent
need to relaunch missionary action in the face of the many serious
challenges of our time. --Pope Benedict
XVI
Today, World Mission Sunday, with Catholics
of the world, we are called to offer, at this Eucharistic celebration,
our prayers and our generous financial support, through the Propagation
of the Faith, to continue the mission of our Lord -- to help
the poor and suffering experience the healing love and peace
of Jesus.

PARISH MISSION PROJECT
St. Jude Academy, Kenya
Teresa Wangechi Kihumba, a retired school teacher,
began feeding the small children at home. Before long she was
teaching the children as well as feeding them. Today she has
seven grades of children and nearly 90 students;
about one third of the students are AIDS orphans and so very
poor.
Teresa will be telling us a little about the
work that she does today. In the future there will be opportunities
for us to help St. Jude and to grow spiritually through this
wonderful good work. ST. FRANCIS SOCIETY

LITURGY BYTES & BITS
Following the homily, and continuing the Liturgy
of the Word, the assembly has an opportunity to respond by professing
its faith in the primary doctrines of the Church. Usually the
Creed is recited by all together. Most frequently it is
the Nicene Creed. Sometimes the Apostles Creed is used,
especially for Masses with children. During the Easter Season
and on some special feasts, such as the Baptism of the Lord,
the renewal of Baptismal Promises is used, usually in a dialogue
format. Sometimes, for instance, on Easter, this form is accompanied
by a sprinkling with holy water to remind us of our baptism.

OCTOBER --
RESPECT LIFE MONTH
- I believe.
. . that our life tends in the end toward a discovery of love,
toward receiving love and giving love. And the crucified Christ,
who presents us with love lived out to the end, as he himself
says in the Gospel of John, lifts this principle up into the
realm of absolute reality. God himself is love. In this sense
love is indeed both the fundamental rule and the ultimate aim
of life. . . Human love always lays claim to eternity. Love contradicts
death.
- ... This human love is turned
from a promise into a fulfillment of reality only when it is
wrapped in a love that can truly impart eternity. [Love] is what
we are looking for and is the goal toward which our lives are
directed. But within its own framework and on its own terms it
directs our view toward God and brings us to wait upon God.
--a reflection by Pope Benedict
XVI from A Novena for Life **Please check out the bulletin boards
in church for brochures and information appropriate to Respect
Life month. 5TH ANNUAL CHNETWORK DEEP IN HISTORY
CONFERENCE: The Catholic Church in the New World is the topic
of the annual conference taking place October 26-28 at
The Hilton at Easton in Columbus, Ohio.
The sessions deal with a variety of subjects
in Catholic history. Let us board our own Santa Maria,
leaving the Old World as we explore the Catholic faith in the
early Americas. Missionaries, from Franciscans to Jesuits, began
to comb this new land, offering the Word of God and establishing
the roots of our Catholic faith.
