THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY
IN ORDINARY TIME
November 10/11, 2007

Life after the resurrection is centered on God’s love.
How can you practice living that today?

Gospel Reflection (Luke 20:27-38) In this reading from the Gospel of Luke, some experts in the Jewish religion try to trap Jesus. They refuse to believe in the resurrection of the dead. We can see they did not agree with Jesus. To help them go beyond their concerns about matrimony and inheritance, Jesus tells them that in the next life they do not have to get married. All our relations are centered in God.

Discussion Points for Gospel:
Can you imagine a resurrected life where people won’t be divided, but where they will live in harmony with God and each other? How can you help those on earth and those in heaven? (--Sadlier “We Believe" www.webelieveweb.com)

Sunday Scripture Readings
Reflection on the Scriptures has become more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday. In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual links to the readings.

QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Facing the reality of death can be very difficult, but today’s Gospel reminds us of the hope of a future life to come. It is important to continue growing in faith and in service to the good news so that, at our time of death, we will know that we have lived well.

Adults: How are my priorities revealed by how I choose to spend my time? Is there anything I might need to change about this?

Children: What one thing can I do this week that will bring a smile to someone’s face?

MEMORIAL BOOK OF THE DEAD
During November, the Church encourages us to remember, with special prayers, those who have died.
We have placed a Memorial Book in the Gathering Space at Church. You are encouraged to add the names of your loved ones who have died. They will be remembered at all the liturgies during the month of November.
Also as a special remembrance, we invite those who have lost family members during the past year (siblings, parents) to bring a picture of their loved ones (3x5 or 4x6). We will display these pictures (we have appropriately sized frames) in our seasonal space near the Memorial Book of the Dead.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
And Let perpetual light shine upon them
May they rest in peace. Amen.
May their souls and the souls of all the
Faithful departed through the mercy of God
rest in peace. Amen

“Don’t miss Newman’s Bake Sale after all the Masses TODAY. It’s bound to be GREAT!!!”

BAPTISM
We welcome with great joy Kwaku Gyamfi Boakye-Yiadom, newly-born today through the waters of Baptism! He is the son of Michael and Becky Boakye-Yiadom. His brother and sister are Kwabena & Ama Sakyiwaa.
VETERANS’ DAY
November 11, is a day set aside to remember those men and women who served in our Armed Forces. In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th as Armistice Day to remind Americans of the tragedies of war. A law adopted in 1938 made the day a federal holiday. In 1954, Congress changed the name of the holiday to Veterans Day to honor all U.S. veterans. We offer prayers of gratitude for all our veterans.

CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

Imagine life below the poverty line, where one in eight Americans struggles every day to hang on. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development helps people to create permanent solutions to the problem of poverty in their communities. Be part of the numbers that care; give generously to the CCHD Appeal next weekend, November 17/18. Visit povertyusa.org to learn more.
STUDY TABLES

Come to the Parish Center this week for some quiet study time prior to finals. On the evenings of Wednesday-Friday, November 14-16, and Sunday/Monday, November 18/19, you will be able to use the cyber cafe, library, or one of the other rooms for study. We’ll have fruit, cheese and crackers, granola, veggies and other healthy (and not-so-healthy!) snacks available. Remember, we’re wireless now so you can bring your laptops.
MASS AT HICKORY CREEK -- Wednesday at 2:00 pm

We will be celebrating the Eucharist at Hickory Creek this Wednesday at 2:00 pm. We expect 12-15 of the residents to attend. Any of our parishioners is welcome to join with us in the prayer. We will be using the dining room for the Mass.

WHY CATHOLIC? RETREAT

All parishioners are invited to attend the Why Catholic? Retreat scheduled for November 17th in the CTK Parish Center. The retreat begins with lunch at 1:00 p.m. and concludes with the Sunday Liturgy at 5:15. Take this time to celebrate with others the gift of faith and life we share in and with Jesus, the Christ.

STEWARDSHIP -- OUTREACH

Last weekend, a check for $2,757.75 was presented to Danny Moates representing the Faith Build Coalition for Athens County Habitat for Humanity. The Faith Build Coalition is working on its 5th house. Christ the King has been active and generous in each of these houses.

Our contribution to St. Vincent de Paul this past month was $1,226.00.

Several parishioners have asked about how to help the St. Jude Academy mission project in Kenya. The project will officially begin in Advent. The committee wanted Teresa Kiumba to make a presentation to the parish before she went back home so that we could have a better sense of the importance of this ongoing project.
CATHOLIC LADIES OF COLUMBIA
The November meeting of the CLC is Monday, the 12th, 6:30 p.m. at CTK. It will be a potluck Thanksgiving dinner. Call Jody, 797-2266 or Barbara, 797-4316 for regrets.
KIDS’ RETREAT
To celebrate Mary’s “Yes” to be the mother of Jesus, there will be a Kids’ Retreat at Christ the King in the Parish Center on Saturday, December 8 (the Feast of the Immaculate Conception). The retreat begins at 9:30 and will end at 11:30. Bring your children for a day of fun and learning! Register by December 2; registration forms are available in the Gathering Space.
HELP NEEDED
Parishioner Dale Dalrymple is moving to a new place, and he has to be out of his current location by Thanksgiving weekend. He desperately needs assistance with this move -- especially since he is wheelchair bound and can’t get around easily. Why not start the season of giving by giving of your time and labor to help Dale out?! Give him a call at 698-5060.
DOLL HOUSE RAFFLE FOR HABITAT
The Faith Build Coalition of Athens County Habitat for Humanity is conducting a raffle for a superb doll house, with a drawing on December 10. There are pictures of the doll house in the Parish Center bulletin board. Tickets range from one for $5 up to 10 for $20. Contact George Bain (592-3828 or gbain45701@yahoo.com) to take a chance and to help build the next house.
MARRIAGE PREPARATION
Couples planning marriage in the Catholic Church are required to attend marriage preparation. The next session at Christ the King church is scheduled for Friday, January 11, AND Friday and Saturday, February 15/16, 2008. Contact the parish office to register or for more information.
