FEAST OF
CHRIST THE KING
November 24/25, 2007

Jesus said his kingdom is not of this world.
In what ways do you show that Jesus is king in your life?

Gospel Reflection (23:35-43) As we celebrate the last Sunday of the Church year, Luke’s Gospel leaves us with a “holy picture” to remember and cherish. It is a crucifixion scene. Above the head of Jesus, a sign proclaims: “This is the king of the Jews.” The soldiers and most of the crowd think that the sign is a bad joke. But a criminal who is hanging in a cross next to Jesus senses the truth about him. “Remember me when you enter upon your reign,” he prays. And the King responds, “This day you will be with me in paradise.”

Discussion Points for Gospel:
"Greater love than this no one has, that he give up his life for his friend." We might say, "Greater love than this no king has, that he give up his life for his people." This is the kind of king Jesus was and is. Now he is a Risen King, and we rise with him each day?every time we respond to grace in our lives, every time we imitate our king by overcoming evil with good. What can you do this week to be like Christ the King in love, in forgiveness, in generosity, in works of peace and justice? (--Sadlier “We Believe" www.webelieveweb.com)

Sunday Scripture Readings
Reflection on the Scriptures has become more and more a part of basic Christian spirituality. At times we would like to return to the Sunday Scriptures at home, but we do not have the missalette with us. At other times we may be interested in seeing just what came before or immediately after the reading for the day to gain more insights.
To encourage this encounter with the Scriptures, we will be including in the bulletin the scripture reading references for the current Sunday and the following Sunday. In addition, in our on-line bulletin we will have the actual links to the readings.

QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
Feast of Christ the King

Jesus’ entire ministry redefined and transformed the concept of kingship. Today’s Gospel reveals the humility, love and forgiveness that are the marks of Christ the King.

Adults: How do my words and actions reveal Christ as ruler of my life?

Children: What can I do this week to be more like Jesus?

Thanksgiving
“Let us give thanks and praise.”
A holiday made for the Eucharist and for prayer. This year we will gather for the Eucharist at St. Paul’s at 9:00 am. For all God’s many gifts, let us give thanks! Please make plans to be there!
MEMORIAL BOOK OF THE DEAD
During November, the Church encourages us to remember, with special prayers, those who have died.
We have placed a Memorial Book in the Gathering Space at Church. You are encouraged to add the names of your loved ones who have died. They will be remembered at all the liturgies during the month of November.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
And Let perpetual light shine upon them
May they rest in peace. Amen.
May their souls and the souls of all the
Faithful departed through the mercy of God
rest in peace. Amen

KIDS’ RETREAT

To celebrate Mary’s “Yes” to be the mother of Jesus, there will be a Kids’ Retreat at Christ the King in the Parish Center on Saturday, December 8 (the Feast of the Immaculate Conception). The retreat begins at 9:30 and will end at 11:30. Bring your children for a day of fun and learning! Register by December 2; registration forms are available in the Gathering Space.

 FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING

Today’s solemnity, the celebration of our Savior’s kingship, echoes Ascension Day, Epiphany and Palm Sunday — all ancient celebrations of Christ’s royal rule. It was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925 as an antidote to the destructive forces of the world at that time: the Bolshevik revolution of 1917, the rise of Fascism in Italy, the loss of political power for the Church in most countries, and the rampant materialism of the “roaring twenties.” Times and politics change, and the day is seen less as a medicine and more are a fitting way to remember the End Time.
--1994 Sourcebook (LTP)
The feast affirms the sovereignty and rule of Christ over persons, families, human society, the state, the whole universe, and in particular affirms the messianic kingship of Christ. The Feast of Christ the King is an idea-feast — celebrates no specific event in history but rather the feast honors our Savior Himself under the title of king.

‘RING IN’ THE ADVENT SEASON WITH THE GIVING TREE
Visit the Giving Tree in the Gathering Space this weekend. Along with St. Paul’s Parish we will be providing gifts for many area families in need this year. The number of requests underscores the economic distress of many families in our community. We hope to provide one gift for each child and a basket of non-perishable foods for the families.
Stop by the tree to pick a tag. To complete the tag write your name and phone number on the tear-off portion of the tag and drop that part in the green box before leaving the Gathering Space. When you get home, detach the bell from your slip and hang it in a prominent spot in your home, office, or car (i.e. a door, your purse or back pack, rear-view mirror). During the Advent season, every time you hear a bell ring, remember to pray for the child/family you selected, as well as others in need.
Please join the other members of our parish in this opportunity to extend Christ’s love to our neighbors. Drop off your gifts at the Parish Center TV Room before noon on Sunday, December 9.
